Le Grand Fooding Exquisite Corpse

Hot Event Alert: Le Grand Fooding

Le Grand Fooding is not your average food event.

Last year, the Paris magazine brought their A-game to PS1, where renowned East Coast chefs dueled with equally, renowned West coast chefs (East side for life!) for the battle of street cred and also a good cause. Chefs like Dan Barber, David Chang, April Bloomfield and Nate Appleman were some of the familiar faces on the scene.

This year, the event is back in full fledge to excite, delight and bring down the house. Get your act together because this is not an event you want to miss!

Spare ribs with roasted red peppers at Maialino

Happy Hour Special: Maialino

Danny Meyer, you sly dog.

You give us Maialino, a Roman Trattoria that blows our minds, and then you manage to slip in an under-the-rader, unpretentious, little summer happy hour at the bar that leaves us scratching our heads (in the satisfying, scratching our heads kind of way, of course).

Let’s dive right into the most, refreshing happy hour to hit New York this summer.

Ecohol

Not Your Normal 2%, More like 40%

As a fellow designer in the Advertising industry, nothing pleases me more than reinvention. Designer, Jörn Beyer from Düsseldorf, Germany simply took milk cartons and slapped recognizable alcohol brand labels like Jack Daniels, Absolut Vodka and Jägermeister onto them, causing an instant reaction and many questions.

On Eating & Enlightenment

Goat tastes like chewy, stew-quality beef. I learned this (and other things) by eating something new every day for roughly forty days, an experiment that began mostly as an excuse to try new restaurants near my apartment in New York’s East Village. What follows is a reflection on those forty days and sixty-something new foodstuffs. (N.B.: Let’s get specific. I’m referring to food purchased outside the home, including takeout, delivery & eat-it-right-there-on-the-spot farmers’ market/food truck purchases.)

The Portland Series: A Whole Lot of Tasty

What does Portland, Oregon have that the other cities don’t have?

If you guessed a bicycle riding population, bacon and fried eggs, Chuck Palahniuk fan clubs, you’re close but no cigar.

What I’m talking about are these 3 to 5 o’clock happy hours. The most brilliant thing since Amazon Subscribe and Save (monthly subscriptions, how could you go wrong?) and Apple products (That’s right, I said it. Don’t eat me alive).

The Portland Series: Get Your Belgian Waffle On

There’s a quote I live by when it comes to waffles and it goes a little something like this…

Waffles make the world go round and round.

They are the feel good food, they make pancakes look pitiful. They are crispy, they are soft. What is there not to like about a waffle?

The Portland Series: Biscuit Me!

It’s not like me to want to visit a place twice in one vacation.

It’s not like me to crave a certain type of food everyday since Ive been back to the city.

It’s not like me to look into franchising opportunities and see if I could bring this food to the city. That’s the entrepreneurial spirit!

Pine State Biscuits. You make my knees weak.

The Montreal Series: Brunch-a-nomics

What is the rule of thumb when you know a restaurant serves exceptionally, charming food but the service is nothing to write home about?

Service is an important aspect of dining. It can either make it or break it. In this case, we weathered the service storm and marched ahead to Montreal’s hit brunch spot Reservoir.
